There was little to no chance a bomb would be dropped on Fort Pierce, FL during the Cold War. But that didn’t stop 30-inch-thick steel-reinforced concrete from being poured in the middle of St. Lucie County.
The 1967 bomb shelter was designed to keep Floridians alive for 30 days. Now it’s on the market for $499,500 and attracting all kinds of buyers — many who hope to make it the ultimate man cave...
The structure is located alongside the Florida Turnpike and was originally built by AT&T in 1967 to serve for shelter and to maintain communications in the case of any catastrophic event. It was built with the Cuban Missile Crisis, just 100 miles away, a fresh memory.
In the mid 1980′s, AT&T decommissioned the shelter. It was sold to a group of Florida investors in 2005 and they’ve just put it up for sale.
Murphy said the 7,700 square foot, partially above ground bunker has 30 inch thick concrete walls and is by far the most unique property he’s handled in his 30 years in the business. “You mow your roof with a tractor… You could even build another house on top of it,” said Murphy.
One interested survivalist brought in an architect to determine how feasible it would be to convert the stakeout into a livable space.
While the architect was reportedly enamored with the space, Murphy reiterated that this would not be your average home renovation project.
“It will be interesting to see who buys the space,” he said. “To turn it into a home, they will have to be creative and have deep pockets.”

Я этих survivalist поддерживаю только до определенного предела - если окружающую среду загадят до состояния, когда носа не высунешь из такого, то мне уже, пожалуй, дальше и не надо :)
Пока еще типа картошку можно сажать, то ничего, поживем-посмотрим...
