• Buy in bulk when possible. Bulk purchases generally have less packaging that you need to discard and
you save money on the per unit cost of the item. Buy in bulk with a neighbor or friend for more savings!
• Compost your leaves, grass and acceptable food waste. (see page for details)
• Use a mulching lawnmower to leave the grass clippings on the lawn. Save time
in mowing your lawn, save on fertilizer treatments and save tax dollars collecting
the grass. (see page for details)
• Use a cloth bag for shopping instead of paper or plastic.
• Rent items that you only use a couple of times.
• Cancel magazine / newspaper subscriptions that you no longer read. Read them
in electronic format if possible.
• Share a magazine subscription with a friend or neighbor or pass your old
magazines to libraries, senior centers or a doctor’s office.
• Have items repaired instead of buying new.
• Try selling your old items on e-bay or through a garage sale.
• Use plates and utensils that can be washed and reused instead of discarded.
• Reuse bottles and cans to hold screws, washers, bolts, nails, coins, etc.
